Resources

Diabetes Australia produces a number of resources available to health professionals and the general public. In some cases the resources have been developed through funding from the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS). A selection of available Resources, including brochures, booklets, DVDs, information sheets and links to other websites, is located in the Resources section of this website.

The Australian Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool (AUSDRISK)

The Type 2 Diabetes Risk Evaluation (MBS Items 713) was released on 1 July 2008 as part of the 'COAG - reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes' initiative to address the significant growth in type 2 diabetes in Australia.

The Type 2 Diabetes Risk Evaluation is available to people aged 40 to 49 years (inclusive) who are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes. ‘High risk’ is determined following the patient’s completion of the Australian type 2 diabetes risk assessment tool.

Diabetes and Fasting for Muslims 2008

Fasting during Ramadan, September/October 2008: what can you tell your Muslim clients?

Despite being exempt, Muslims with diabetes often wish to fast because of the status of Ramadan. During this month foods and fluids are only allowed at night so fasting extends from dawn to sunset. Longer gaps between meals and greater amounts of foods - in particular, a higher intake of carbohydrate - may mean people with diabetes experience large swings in blood glucose levels during Ramadan.

In 2008, Ramadan is expected to commence on 1 September and to continue until 1 October.
