Discover the most read diabetes stories of 2021 2 December 2021 2021 was an interesting year for the diabetes community in more ways than one. While many of us probably spent more time at home than we may have hoped for, it was an opportunity to connect with family and the people we share our house with, review how we work and consider how we maintain our health. We also celebrated 100 years since the discovery of insulin – one of the greatest medical breakthroughs of modern times which has saved and changed the lives of millions of people living with diabetes worldwide. Weight loss key to type 2 remission The exciting news out of the UK was that The DiRECT study, funded by Diabetes UK, demonstrated for the first time that remission of type 2 diabetes is possible. Diabetes NSW & ACT has partnered with Sydney University and five local Primary Health Networks to conduct a similar study in Australia. In a joint statement from Diabetes Australia, the Australian Diabetes Society, the Australian Diabetes Educators Association it was recommended all adults with diabetes get vaccinated against COVID-19.
