Through in-person events and online sessions with diabetes experts, we help kids feel understood and empower parents with practical tools, trusted information and meaningful connections. We also offer the DiaBuddies Youth Leadership Program, which provides leadership training for young adults living with type 1 diabetes, helping them become role models for others. Our events are designed for children living with type 1 diabetes, their siblings, and their parents or carers. Events cater to different age groups, so check the event details for suitability. What age kids attend DiaBuddies events? We welcome children of all ages; however, not all activities may be suitable or enjoyed by very young children (under 5) or older teens (over 15). Please check individual event details or contact us at [email protected] if you’re unsure. What can I expect at a DiaBuddies event? Each event includes a mix of fun activities, expert-led discussions, and opportunities to meet other families facing similar challenges. You’ll also have the chance to speak with diabetes educators and other health professionals, such as exercise physiologists and accredited practising dietitians. How do I register for an event? Click ‘Select tickets’ in the event you’re interested in and complete the short registration form to reserve your spot. I can’t attend in person. Are there online options? Yes! We offer DiaBuddies Online sessions with expert speakers and interactive discussions for families who can’t attend in person. Do DiaBuddies events cost anything to attend? DiaBuddies events are free for children living with type 1 diabetes. In some cases, a small fee (typically around $10 per adult) may apply for parents or carers to cover venue or catering costs. Any fees will be clearly outlined during the registration process.
