My Health Record – your key health information in your hands 4 June 2024 Did you know that you can access important information about your health through digital tools such as My Health Record? My Health Record was set up several years ago by the Australian Government as a safe and secure place to keep your key health information. You, your healthcare providers and any representatives you may have, can access it at any time, including in an emergency. It contains your immunisation information, pathology and diagnostic imaging reports, prescription and dispensing information, hospital discharge summaries, and more. Getting started If you don’t already have a My Health Record, you can register for one at any time by following a three-step process outlined on digitalhealth.gov.au. When this is complete, you can access My Health Record through a computer or a mobile device, such as a smartphone or a tablet, with an internet connection. You can also view your record using the my health app. Access and privacy Your online health information is safe and secure. You can update your personal information and view your record’s history to confirm whether your record has been accessed or updated. You can restrict access to your record, restrict access to a document, or remove a document. You can also change restricted access, so healthcare providers only see what you want them to see. If you would like family members, friends, carers, or other people you trust to access your record, you can invite them to be a nominated representative. Five reasons to use My Health Record Safely stores your medical history and information on medicines, so you don’t have to remember all the details. Provides an overview of your health over time, allowing you to keep track of the tests you have had and the results. Shows your pathology reports including blood tests, urine tests and biopsies. Importantly, when you live with diabetes, your HbA1c results are accessible as soon as they are uploaded by your pathology provider, allowing you to monitor changes. Allows you to view available diagnostic imaging reports such as X-rays, CT scans, and ultrasounds. All your key health information in the one place, enabling better connected care and helping to avoid unnecessary tests and scans.
