It provides easy access to expert and personalised diabetes care from wherever you are in Australia. Whether you’re new to telehealth or a regular user, here are some tips to help you get the most out of your appointment. Check your device Telehealth appointments can be via phone or video. While phone calls are convenient, video calls offer a more personal experience and better care outcomes. Your CDE can see you face-to-face, which may assist in assessing your overall wellbeing. It’s also easier for them to demonstrate equipment (like blood glucose meters or insulin pens). They can also guide you through your results more clearly on screen. For video calls, use a fully charged phone, tablet, laptop or desktop with a stable internet connection. If you can watch YouTube videos, your device can likely handle a video call. Most devices have built-in cameras, speakers and microphones. Once you book, we will send you clear instructions, and you can test your setup using the link we provide. Find a private space Choose a quiet, well-lit, private area for your telehealth appointment. If you’re at work, find a meeting room or space where you won’t get interrupted and can speak openly with your clinician. Consider your goals Your first Telehealth Clinic appointment will be 45 minutes long (follow up appointments are 20 minutes), offering plenty of time to cover a lot of ground. Think ahead about what you want to discuss. Whether it’s understanding medication, managing side effects, or setting lifestyle goals, having a clear focus makes your session more productive. Be prepared For your telehealth appointment, send your test results, medication details, and a list of questions or symptoms to the clinic and then have a copy handy to ensure nothing is missed. You may also want to have a pen and paper handy to take notes. You’re also welcome to include a family member or carer in the call if you’d like their support – they don’t have to be in the same location as you, they just need the same tech set up. Your clinician will call you on your phone instead, so keep your phone handy. They’ll help you troubleshoot or complete your appointment by phone.
