The impact of Levemir discontinuation

Raise your voice. Drive change.

Last year the global diabetes community was dealt a blow with the announcement of the discontinuation of Levemir (insulin detemir) from December 2026.

Levemir allows people needing twice-a-day insulin to tailor their insulin regimen – one dose during the day, another overnight – and its removal from the market is a serious concern.

This is a global decision by the manufacturer and despite approaches across the world, it is not able to be reversed.

Diabetes Australia is working to identify alternatives for those who might be affected by this decision.

Take action

We are seeking input from people on twice-a-day Levemir about how you may be affected, in order to inform Diabetes Australia’s advocacy on this issue.

We are also seeking a volunteer with lived experience of Levemir to assist with developing an Options Paper.

If you would like to provide feedback or be included in this important work, complete the form.

Let us know how the discontinuation of Levemir will impact you.
