Diabetes affects millions of people every day, and empowering people to effectively self-manage their diabetes care is essential for improving health outcomes and reducing diabetes-related complications.

Unfortunately, accessing help can be challenging due to long wait times and difficulties in finding the appropriate health professionals for effective self-management.

In our latest policy paper, we’re urging the Federal Government to increase investment in preventive health to 5% of total health expenditure by 2030. Preventing complications such as kidney failure, vision loss, congenital malformations and amputations is critical to helping people live well with diabetes. Many of these outcomes can be prevented with timely, coordinated care.

A national, coordinated approach is essential to drive progress. Despite strong consensus on what works, implementation remains fragmented and underfunded.

To support our work, we would like to gain a deeper understanding of what truly impacts your diabetes self-management and invite you to share your experiences.

  • Do you have an inspiring story about someone or something that has helped you to successfully manage your condition?
  • Has a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE) played a role in your care, or have you not been able to access one?
  • Has any other health practitioner, such as a practice nurse, general practitioner or Aboriginal health worker, been key to helping you to learn more about your condition?
  • Has your healthcare team empowered you to access educational support that has helped you with self-management?
  • Has your healthcare team introduced you to technologies or medicines that have improved your diabetes self-management?

Share your story and help us advocate for a preventative, patient-first approach to diabetes care – your voice matters.
