Free Shane Warne Legacy health checks are being provided at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 (24-26 October 2025) for racegoers to get a quick read on their health.

The Shane Warne Legacy (SWL) and Diabetes Australia have partnered to provide access to Sisu Health Stations at the event, free to the public.

The health checks have proven to be incredibly successful over the past year and have reached tens of thousands of Australians at major events around the country, such as the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and the AFL Gather Round in Adelaide.

Offered through SiSU Health Stations, the health checks assess health risk factors for type 2 diabetes “(AUSDRISK)” including blood pressure, and body mass. 

Diabetes Australia Group CEO Justine Cain urged people attending the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 to take advantage of this opportunity to get on-the-spot results.

“The great thing about the Shane Warne Legacy health checks is they are free, quick and self-serve – and they give people a baseline health assessment that can help start a conversation with their health professional.

“Support for the health checks is part of Diabetes Australia’s ongoing commitment to the prevention of type 2 diabetes and its complications,” Ms Cain said.

Former Australian Wicketkeeper Ian Healy, who will be supporting the health check stations said “Shane was more than just a mate, he was a once-in-a-generation character who cared deeply about people.

Diabetes Australia’s Director of Research Professor Grant Brinkworth said it was concerning that so many Australians are living with or at high risk of type 2 diabetes and don’t know it.

“There are 1.3 million Australians living with type 2 diabetes and we estimate another 500,000 are living with it but aren’t diagnosed. That’s a big concern because it means their diabetes isn’t being managed and the risk of complications increases.

“Unfortunately, people living with diabetes are twice as likely to develop heart disease or have a stroke, so health checks like these are really important.

“While not all diabetes can be prevented and some people are at higher risk due to genetic factors, or family history, we know that 58 percent of type 2 diabetes cases could be prevented or delayed. For that to happen, we need early detection,” Professor Brinkworth said.  

The free health checks will be available at the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 from 24-26 October and visitors to the stand will be able access information about prevention of type 2 diabetes and prevention of complications.

Callers to 1800PREVENT (type 2 diabetes) speak with a Diabetes Australia staff member who supports them in navigating health information services.
