Have you eaten your greens today? 8 December 2014 We all remember being told as kids to eat our greens but a new study may give us another reason to listen. Swedish researchers found green plant membranes in foods like spinach, kale, watercress, parsley, lettuce and broccoli sprouts helped curb the appetite of the test group of women, aged 40 to 65 years, leading to healthy weight loss. Give me some of that! The study found, those who consumed 5g of a green plant membrane concentrate per day lost on average 4.9kg over three months, compared to only 3.4kg in those given a placebo. Women eating the greens secreted more of a hormone known as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) which is known to aid in satiety and reduce the urge to eat junk food. So why don’t you add a cup or two of spinach to your day?
