Professor Greg Johnson gets on his bike to raise funds and awareness for diabetes 26 February 2021 Diabetes Australia CEO Professor Greg Johnson is once again joining Diabetes Tasmania’s PolliePedal, the annual 3-day bike ride event to raise funds and awareness for diabetes. PolliePedal has been raising funds and awareness across Tasmania every year February since 2006 and has become one of Australia’s well-known fundraisers for not-for-profits. “Pollie Pedal is a fundraiser which helps Diabetes Tasmania deliver education programs and services and support diabetes research, but it is also an opportunity raise awareness of diabetes in the communities we visit,” Professor Johnson said. “This includes talking about the seriousness of diabetes, breaking the stigma associated with the condition and highlighting the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle. “We have cyclists riding with us who live with type 1 diabetes, so it is also an opportunity to show people that anything is possible.” Joining Professor Johnson will be Tasmanian MP and Diabetes Australia ambassador Guy Barnett. “Since helping establish this inaugural event in 2006, I have joined politicians and community members to cycle thousands of kilometers on the way to raise $750,000 for Diabetes Tasmania,” Mr Barnett said. “I have seen the event grow from humble beginnings to a highly anticipated annual event that is now the flagship fundraising event of the year.” Find out more about Diabetes Tasmania’s PolliePedal event, including how to get involved: https://diabetestas.org.au/pollie-pedal/ Show your support by making a donation.
