Blood Glucose Testing Strips 4 June 2015 The Federal Government has recently announced a decision to limit access to blood glucose testing strips for people with type 2 diabetes who are not using insulin to manage their diabetes. Please be assured, there is no immediate change and we understand any change will not come into effect until 1 July 2016 – over one year away. Diabetes Australia does not support this decision and we are talking to the Federal Government about how this will be implemented to ensure people with type 2 diabetes get the support they need to self-monitor their diabetes. We understand there will be some exemptions but we don’t have all the detail yet. If you have concerns please register your name with Diabetes Australia or your state diabetes organisation. We also understand the price of some diabetes medicines will rise following an agreement signed between the pharmacy sector and the Federal Government. We’ve asked the Government about how much the price of these medicines will rise and how this will impact on people with diabetes. If you want to express your concern to the Government or if you have any questions please email or write to the Minister for Health Hon Sussan Ley at [email protected] And remember, if you have immediate concerns about your diabetes treatment please see your doctor.
