Australian Government subsidy of Continuous Glucose Monitors 23 December 2016 During the 2016 Federal Election, the Government committed to subsidise continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) technology to assist children and young adults under 21 years of age who face extra challenges managing their type 1 diabetes. The Government, through the Department of Health, is working to address this election commitment. While this work is well advanced, a commencement date has not been determined. The Department of Health is consulting with Diabetes Australia, expert endocrinologists and clinicians and other key stakeholders to assist with the implementation of this commitment as part of the National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) and to ensure that eligible children and young adults receive the support they need. Work is continuing to finalise elements such as the clinical eligibility criteria, authorisation process, supply arrangements, information, education and support programs as well as the administrative and information technology systems changes required to implement this commitment. Further information will be provided once these details have been finalised.
