Update from 7×7 challenger, David Morgan 20 November 2020 David Morgan and his daughter hiking the Werribee Gorge Circuit Have you been wondering how David Morgan (7X7 challenger) has been going? Despite his travel plans screeching to a complete halt – David has been working hard to stay fit and motivated. David Morgan has been quietly training away, preparing for when he is able to get back out there and continue to take on the world biggest marathons and summits. Read his updates below. With Mt.Everest and Denali mountain climbs now booked for 2021 (Travel exemptions to navigate), and a year of training done, I’m running a 60km ultramarathon in Wilson’s prom (Vic) December, to pick up some momentum with the campaign as restrictions ease and we look to secure further interest. I stood ready in 2019 to take on the 7×7 Challenge in support of research into Type1 Diabetes, motivated, training & naive. Soon the summits of Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Aconcaguua, Vinson, Kosciuszko were no longer in the pages of aspirations but had become a new chapter in a colourful story. Those experiences gave me more than memories to relive, they became the foundation to train harder, focus and commit to the remaining two big mountains now in my sights. Running was the backbone of getting expedition ready, but now I cycle, swim and work on the strength endurance ambitions require. I’m grateful I chose last year to also run two marathons, because then came 2020, and COVID-19, and a whole lot more. Whilst I stood ready to test my potential, Denali & Everest closed. Organised marathons cancelled or postponed. Training in isolation presented its own challenges as the world changed and the pandemic raged. Fortunate in so many ways, perspective is always relevant. With Father Time our society continues its path to normality. Finally feeling stronger than ever thanks to KP, events are coming back too. Tokyo, Chicago & Berlin Marathons will have to wait, but closer to home ‘Running Wild’ organisers welcome us to what may be the only significant event left in Victoria 2020. Just committing to run the 60km distance is motivating enough, but I’ll do my best to represent Diabetes Australia and our supporters in what will be the furtherest distance I’ve ever ran. “A self supported run at Wilsons Prom, the southernmost tip of mainland Australia has been scheduled for the 15th running of one of Australia’s best coastal trail runs at Victoria’s spectacular Wilsons Promontory National Park…” This Covid year, a year like no other is drawing to a close. With rugged wilderness to explore I’ll continue to be off running and thank my family & supporters of the 7×7 Challenge. Donations for research into Diabetes welcome- www.soulsearch.com.au
