Professor Frank Alford awarded Order of Australia for services to endocrinology 25 June 2021 Professor Frank Alford has been awarded the Order of Australia for his service to endocrinology. Professor Alford led an esteemed career as one of Australia’s eminent endocrinologists for forty years. He graduated from Melbourne University in 1964 and received his post graduate training at Stanford University in California and Middlesex Hospital, London. He returned to Australia where he was appointed Director of Endocrinology and Diabetes at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne until 2001. Most recently he was the coordinator of the Diabetes and Endocrine Centre, St John of God Hospital in Bendigo, Victoria. Professor Alford is a Professional Fellow of the University of Melbourne and was secretary, vice president and president of the Australian Diabetes Society for more than a decade. He was the founding Convenor of the ADS Research Foundation which became the Diabetes Australia Research Trust. Professor Alford received the Claude Kellion Lecture Award from the Australian Diabetes Society in 2011 and received the ADS Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018. He has also authored 170 research publications.
